The season finally kicked off this weekend with the opening round of the MX Nationals at Preston Docks.
After a lot of rain and snow in the week the organizers did a great job with the track and had it in great condition for racing.
After racing the pre season Hawkstone International on February the 7th I worked hard with the team and made some good changes with the bike.
Qualifying- Qualifying didn’t quite go as planned, there was a lot of traffic out on a very fast flat track which made it really difficult to get a clear lap. I made a mistake on my first flying lap and stalled the bike, it took me a while to get going again and once I was I rode really tight and wasn’t riding how I could. I kept putting laps in till the end and finally rounded the session in 9th which wasn’t too bad as I didn’t get a good lap and I knew I was capable of a lot more in the races.
Race 1- I made a decent start and was around 7th on the first lap, I instantly felt more comfortable than i did in Qualifying and managed to make some passes and move up to 5th in the race and 4th MX1. Knowing it was a long race i used my head and rode a nice comfortable pace to bring it home at the finish for 4th MX1.
Race 2- The track at this point was really beaten up and to make it even more difficult the sun was really low making Visibility very hard. A good start was crucial! Again I was able to get another good start rounding the first turn in 5th, I quickly made a pass to move into 4th on the 3rd turn. It was really hard to push forward as some parts of the track you could see nothing with the sun. Again i used my head during the 30 minutes plus 2 lap race and crossed the line 4th in the race and 4th MX1 which was good enough for 3rd overall on the day.
Overall- Today has been a really good day, it’s great to start the season off with a podium and hopefully I can build from this and push for even better results. The last few weeks i has been working really hard with my fitness trainer and also my riding coach RMJ, the team have also put a lot of effort in to get me more comfortable on the bike so it’s nice for everyone to be rewarded with a podium.
The next race for me is the opening round of the Maxis British Motocross Championship at Lyng in just under two weeks time.
